COMPANY HISTORY
Joe Vila, an immigrant from Spain, started the Joe Vila Construction Company in Albany, California in 1916. As an underground construction company, Joe Vila Construction served the San Francisco Bay Area and soon expanded into the house moving business. After World War II, Joe’s sons Henry and George joined the growing family business as the Company evolved to include general contracting. The Company name was changed to J. Vila and Sons Construction and the Company focused on residential and apartment construction. During the 1960’s, the Company’s growth emphasized commercial construction and set the foundation for the future direction that is followed today. In 1976, the Company incorporated and the name was changed to Vila Construction Company.

Bob, Joe, and Rich Vila, sons of Henry and George joined the Company by the early 1970’s and the family legacy continued. All three worked in the field and developed extensive backgrounds in tilt-up, steel, wood frame and masonry construction as well as job management and supervision. By the 1980’s Bob, Joe, and Rich joined Company management and developed skills as estimators and project managers. They became vice-presidents of the Company and their skill and expertise were needed as the Company expanded and refocused their operations to meet the progressive climate of the industry. During the past two decades this team has brought different but compatible strengths and determination to their business. Each of the Vilas compliments the other for a strong and vital enterprise.

Today, Vila Construction Company, under the direction of George, Rich, and Bob Vila, brings 89 years of strong and solid construction and management background and expertise to the market place. Vila Construction is equally at home in the public or private sectors for building and/or construction management projects for commercial retail, shopping center and office complexes and civic, religious and institutional facilities. Vila Construction prides itself on being clearly adaptable for the ever-changing construction markets
